Aghadoe

Ogham Stone

The ogham stone at Parkavonear is situated on the top of the south side of the chancel wall of Aghadoe Church. The 1.68 metre stone is in bad condition and broken into three pieces. They have been joined together and placed flat on the wall. Macalister's reading is "BRRUANANN" but Mcmanus in 1991 reads it as " BRRENANN". Because of the damage to the stone it is difficult to read some of the letters.

There was a second ogham stone at the site but this stone is now missing. The stone is dated between 550 -900AD. See also Aghadoe Church and Round Tower.

Situated: From Killarney take the N70 west. After 1 kilometre take a right turn at Ballydowny Drive for 2 k. The church is on your right at the T-Junction.
