Caherdaniel

Stone Fort

This large cashel sits on a rocky outcrop overlooking Derrynane Bay. It is situated on private land, but can be viewed from a narrow track to the northeast. The exterior wall is at least 5 metres high on the north side, but only one metre above ground level on the inside. These huge 3.5 metres wide walls are sadly more ruinous and badly overgrown on the south east side, which is probably where the entrance was located. The overgrown outline of a poorly preserved cashel can be seen about 40 metres west of Caherdaniel.

Pictured above is the other, poorly preserved, Caher 130 metres west of Caherdaniel.

Situated: The Caher is located on an outcrop, west of Caherdaniel Village. Look for a narrow track on the south side of the N70 about 750 metres west of the Village.
