Caherdorgan

Stone Fort

This is an amazing circular cashel overlooking Smerwick Harbour. Inside the cashel are five reasonably preserved clochauns and at least one souterrain. The cashel is built on a level platform in a sloping field. There is big drop down to the field on the western side. Three of the Clochauns are conjoined in the centre of the fort. The southernmost and largest of these clochauns has a souterrain at the base of the western wall. A fabulous site to wander around. Strongly recommended.

Situated: From Dingle head west on the R 559 then turn right for Baile na Fheirtearaigh , also the R 559. The Fort is on your left 1 kilometre before Kilmalkedar Church.
