Drumanone

Portal Tomb

As can be seen from the picture on the left, the capstone of the portal tomb at Drumanone, County Roscommon, has slipped back from the two portal stones, but it is still a fine example of its kind. The two portal stones stand to a height of two metres and the tomb still retains the almost full height doorstone, pictured below. It was quite overcast on my last visit and the images do not do this tomb justice.

Situated: From Boyle take the R294 west for almost 3k after the railway bridge you will see a cottage on your right with a lane running north, walk to the top of the lane, cross the railway line, when it is safe. The tomb is on your left.
