Court Tomb

The remains of the gallery of this court tomb are really quite impressive, although only the gallery itself remains consisting of 4 chambers, you can clearly see the jambs dividing these chambers, the tomb has huge side stones making up the walls of the gallery and it is suggested they may have been split from a huge boulder. I will visit this tomb again the next time I am in the area, my visit this time was far too short.

The twelve metre long gallery is aligned in a southwest-northeast direction. The backstone of the gallery can be seen in to the left, or southwest, in the image above. The two entrance stones, at the northeast, stand just under one metre high. Pictured below is one of the huge side stones on the north side of the gallery.

Situated: In County Down, from Rostrevor take the A 2 east to Kilkeel after approx 12 kilometres you will come to Massfort there is a Graveyard to the left, the tomb is down a lane way to the right of this Graveyard and well sign -posted.
