Glassamucky Mountain Cross Inscribed Stone Located on east side of the R115, AKA the Military Road, about 30 metres north of the Cunard viewing point, you will find this granite boulder set on it's long axis. It's not surprising to discover there once was a small gravel pit located here as the whole side of Glassamucky mountain is covered with granite boulders. What is odd about this stone is the south face bears an inscribed cross with expanded terminals. The cross is 40cms high x 35cms wide. I don't think there is any ecclesiastical connection to this site, nothing is known about it's origin. Locally it is known as the 'Sweeps Cross' as traditionally it is believed to mark the spot where a chimney sweep froze to death after been caught in a snowstorm.
