Station 1 A court tomb

Glencolumbkille

 

Saint Colmcille founded a monastery in this beautiful valley and it became a place of pilgrimage and still is to this very day. There are 15 pilgrim stations around the village visited by pilgrims on June 9th most of these stations are in fact various megalithic remains. I have listed these Stations below.

 

 

Station Number 1, pictured left, is actually the remains of a Court Tomb.

Station 2 is a cross pillar.

Station 3 Has a Cairn and healing stones.

Station 4 Is a Cairn and ring work.

Station 5 is also a ring work and has 3 cairns.

Station 7 is a Holy well

Station 8 has 3 Cairns.

Station 9 is a Court Tomb.

Station 10 Is a Cairn.

Station 11 Is a Cairn.

Station 13 Is a Cross Pillar.

Station 14 Is a Cairn.

Station 15 pictured below is another Cross Pillar.

Situated: On the South West Coast of County Donegal. Glencolumbkille is a beautifully situated village. The Stations cover an area of about 3 1/2 square miles.
