Irish High Crosses

Fennor

Slane

Situated in St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Slane, County Meath is this fragment of a high cross head. The sandstone head was found buried in an old Churchyard at Fennor County Meath. The complete cross would have been similar in size to the cross at Duleek, also in County Meath. On presumably what would have been the west face pictured below, is a badly weathered crucifixion scene with some unidentified figures on the right arm. According to Harbison the east face may bear six bosses in an interlace pattern. I can not recommend a visit to this site as there are far better examples to be seen relatively close to Fennor.

Situated: In the catholic church in Slane, County Meath. From Dublin take the N2 north, the church is on your right shortly after the crossroads in the centre of Slane.
