Kilmacduagh

Church of St John the Baptist

To the north of the Cathedral at Kilmacduagh stands this simple nave and chancel church, known as the oratory of St John ( Teampull Owen). The masonry of the original building, which is now the nave, has been dated to the 10th century, making this church the oldest building on the site. The small and much ruined chancel was added at a much later date. In the remains of the south wall are two single windows, the eastern most is pointed and the western window is round.

Situated: From Gort in Galway head southwest on the R460 for 6 kilometres. The church is located in the field between the cathedral and the Glebe House.
