Medieval Church

The church at Oristown, Irish-Baile Órthaí, is situated on a prominent natural hillock. It give my the impression of a passage tomb mound. According to some 17th century records, it was dedicated to St Catherine, as is the present parish church, and was a Chapel-of-Ease to Donaghpatrick. Because it is nearer to Teltown, some think it may have acted as a Chapel-of-Ease to the Teltown Parish Church. Only the foundations of the 13.5 metre long church remain. It stands on the top of the hillock in a d-shaped graveyard. There are no particularly interesting features present.

Situated: From Kells take the R163 east for 5.5 kilometres. Turn slight left at the fork. Then 500 metres turn left. The churchyard is 500 metres up here on your left.
