Threecastles Castle

Caisleán Bhaile na dTrí Chaosleán

Very little is known about the history of the remaining castle at Threecastles, but we do know from the name of the townland that there must have been three castles in the area at some stage. The tower house originally extended further west but this portion of the castle is now missing. There are two connecting doorways on the western side of the castle and the springing of a barrel vault can be seen. The tower house is three storeys high with a projecting stair turret in the northeastern corner, see top image. There is another vaulted roof on the upper floor. The first floor has a fine fireplace and a gardrobe with a chute built into the walls of the stair turret.
