Holy Well

The holy well at Callan is located sixty five metres south of the Augustinian friary. This spring fed well is surrounded by a rectangular, stone built, well-house. A constant flow from the well house forms a small stream that meanders, from an opening in the south side of the well house, down towards the Kings River. I visited Abbey Meadows on a beautiful sunny evening and had the abbey, holy well and meadow to myself. It was so peaceful, and a sheer delight, to watch the water bubbling up through the stones in the bottom of the well house.
