Tory Island / Toraigh St Brigid's Shrine St Brigid is one of the most revered saints in Ireland, throughout the length and breadth of the country there are churches, monasteries, schools and literally hundreds of holy wells dedicated to her. So I am not surprised that she is also revered on Tory Island. As well as Ulaí Bhríde, a stone altar that locals believe is the remains of a small oratory dedicated to the saint, there is a modern shrine, pictured below, also dedicated to St Brigid. The only wells on the island are situated at the eastern end and neither of them are dedicated to a saint. I don't usually include modern shrines on the website, but at the base of the steps leading up to the shrine there is a large boulder with a single bullaun in the top, it is not mentioned on the National monuments website.
