Mullaghmast

Standing Stone

Standing on the the crest of a hill at Mullaghmast is this bulky looking standing stone. Approximately 1.8 metres tall the stone has traces of grooves running down it, these can be seen in the image shown right. To see another stone with grooves click here. This stone was moved from its original position on the opposite side of the road and now stands in a little niche with a plaque inscribed with the name 'Mullaghmast Long Stone' There are some excellent views from here but the surrounding hedgerows do hamper your view.

Situated: About five kilometres north of Moone on the N9 take a right turn for Balitore (sign posted), drive to a T-Junction and take a left, then take the second right at the crossroads. The Standing stone is about 500 metres up this hill on your right.
